OSCAR NOMINEES 2010

The Oscar nominees for this year’s short film (animated) are out. Honestly they’re quite as impressive as previous years. However I would believe that out of all one stands out the most for me.

“French Roast” (Fabrice O. Joubert)
“Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty” (Nicky Phelan and Darragh O’Connell)
“The Lady and the Reaper (La Dama y la Muerte)” (Javier Recio Gracia)
“Logorama” (Nicolas Schmerkin)
“Wallace & Gromit in ‘A Matter of Loaf and Death’” (Nick Park)

While ” French Roast” seems to be impressive on character designs and the look of its renders, the story gets abit tad bit complex and slow for me.

The other one that does it for me is Granny O Grimm’s sleeping beauty. They really nialed down that Irish mannerism and trades, reminds me quite abit of Shrek in a different sort of way. The use of both 2d and 3d is great but the animation ended up abit shy.

This one brings it home base for me

Trust the spanish to produce something really worthy of an Oscars.. everything is perfect from the concept, designs and the animation, and they’ve got some awesome clouds going.

In honesty, I could’nt be poofed about the other 2….one is about a world filled with “logo” characters, and another…Wallace and Gromit? A MATTER OF LOAF AND DEATH? dude seriously…its been done and re done already, move on from the puns…
